Getting Married in the Dominican Republic

As the second largest country in the Caribbean - the Dominican Republic is an ideal destination for weddings, honeymoons and romantic milestones. The country’s magnificent nature, stunning beaches and world-class accommodation set the scene for your dream wedding day.

Breath-taking coastline, pristine beaches, enchanting history and fascinating culture set the stage for the perfect destination to say ‘I Do.’

The Dominican Republic is a real people pleaser when it comes to accommodation for your guests. From small boutique hotels to luxury all-inclusive and family friendly, there is a wide range of hotels to suit everyone’s budget and requirements. The destination is also extremely easy to get to, with direct flights from many regional UK airports.

To get married in the Dominican Republic you will need the following:

• Original passport

• Affidavits of marital status, certifying that the bride and groom are single

• Original birth certificates

• Divorce Certificate(s) or Death Certificate(s), if applicable

• Two or more witnesses with valid passports, other than family

One of the most popular locations on the island is Punta Cana and it’s easy to see why with world-class beaches, desert islands and historical towns. It’s also known as the Coconut Coast due to its abundance of tropical palm trees laden with coconuts.   If you want a break from the coast, Punta Cana is home to some of the Caribbean’s most historical cities including Santo Domingo, the country’s capital.

On the south coast you will find La Romana, home to some of the island’s most luxurious resorts lined with beaches of sugar-white sand and azure seas. If you are looking for a location with plenty of culture, La Romana is the perfect choice with miniature haciendas, cigar shops and street markets plus it has a stunning marina with plenty of restaurants to choose from.

Alternatively if you are looking to escape the tourist hotspots head to the north of the island to Puerto Plata. Here you will find the Cordillera Central mountain range featuring three of the tallest peaks in the Greater Antilles. It’s also home to sugar cane fields and tropical coffee plantations.
